The God Who Cares

“As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you” - Isaiah 66:13

“How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn’t let me.” - Luke 13:34

“So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” - 1 Peter 5:6-7

As a parent, I’ve had numerous instances where I’ve had to discipline my kids. I wasn’t the favorite parent in those moments. I’ve also been frustrated, angry and disappointed in them. Again, not making any pleasant Top 10 lists. Even in those moments, my girls knew where they stood with me. They knew I would protect them, provide for them, and love them deeply. No amount of “daddy is mad” would ever take away those assurances.

While the world sees God as cold and indifferent or as a heavy hand, ready to strike down anybody that gets in His way, we know different. God does deal with sin and the wrath of God is very real. He also loves us deeply, is patient with us, and walks through the daily details of our lives with miraculous attention. We are on His mind. We are in His thoughts. He sees the little details of our lives and navigates through them, fulfilling His purposes.

That’s why the great promise of 1 Peter 5:7 rings loudly for those who know Him best: “Cast all your cares on Him, because He cares for you.”

TRY IT: Take some time today and remember all the times God took care of you. Now thank Him for his care in your life.
